Designing systems that translate insight into shared understanding and real-world impact
Designing systems that translate insight into shared understanding — and shared understanding into decisions that stick.
Sector:
Organizations rarely suffer from a lack of research. They suffer from a lack of translation.
Across the engagements behind this work — spanning healthcare, conservation, and cross-sector initiatives — the pattern was consistent: valuable insights existed, but they were fragmented, siloed, or expressed in ways that only the people who created them could use. Decision-makers couldn't act on what they couldn't access or understand.
The challenge wasn't generating more knowledge. It was making existing knowledge visible, usable, and aligned across the people responsible for acting on it.
Tools & Craft:
In each engagement, the first step was surfacing what already existed — research, data, and institutional knowledge that had never been synthesized or made accessible to the broader team. Often, the most valuable insights were already there. They just weren't findable.
Much of this work involved bringing together groups who rarely shared a common language — scientists and product teams, researchers and policymakers, data analysts and executive stakeholders. I designed and facilitated structured sessions to help these groups interpret findings together, identify what mattered most, and align on priorities before jumping to solutions.
Raw findings don't drive decisions — stories and frameworks do. I developed visual systems, communication frameworks, and decision tools that converted complex data into formats different audiences could actually use: executive briefings, stakeholder workshops, strategic roadmaps, and public-facing narratives.
The final step was always the same: defining what to do next, who owns it, and how to know if it worked. Without this, even the best research sits on a shelf.
The biggest barrier is rarely a lack of knowledge — it's that knowledge isn't visible or usable to the people who need it.
When you design for translation and alignment — not just analysis — research stops being a deliverable and starts being a driver of real decisions.
